(From my original Blogspot)

I just returned from a good old trip to Wal Mart. I have successfully avoided the place lately, and wouldn't have gone today if it hadn't been for a phone call from out next door neighbor. Apparently, the "door buster" lego sets that were supposed to be sold at the black Friday sale didn't come in on time, so now Wal Mart has a ton of them on hand. We wanted to buy Parker a nice, big lego set for Christmas, and this one was the $100 castle set for only $50. Castle isn't necessarily his first choice, but he said the other day that he loves all legos and that any lego set is a good set. So I went and picked one up.

I'll tell you, that place is so depressing. The employees are overworked and underpaid, and dismal in every way. The nicest one there was a poor woman who could hardly speak any english when I asked her for some help. She was very sweet and humble. I don't care what some people think about immigrants; I think they are some of the nicest and hardest working people around. I'd rather spend time with them than a bitter, lazy American.

The abundance that we have here in America is truly awe-inspiring. But at Wal Mart, it is kind of a dismal abundance. There really is just too much stuff to be had. I never cease to be overwhelmed when I walk in there. Sometimes I long for a simpler existence. But don't worry, I won't run to pitch a tent in the desert any time soon....I love the comforts of modern living.
