An antidote to perfectionism is the "C+ effort"

(From my original Blogspot)

My husband was jogging a few days ago and told his jogging group how he gave the raising of the Christmas tree a "C+ effort."  The tree was erected, and some ornaments were put on it, but we did not worry too much about the finer touches.   It doesn't need a fashion update for 2009.  It doesn't need an hour or two of analysis and adjustment.  Check it off of the list.

One of the ladies in the group was quite interested in hearing about what a "C+ effort" was.  She said she hadn't really considered that concept before and seemed to like the idea of merely doing a competent job and calling it good enough.

I love the concept of the C+ effort; in fact, I use it for lots of things in my life.  Meals, homework help, bills, housekeeping, wardrobe, keeping up with friends, washing the car.... in fact, some things even get a D+ effort.  But I find that when I don't stress having to be perfect in everything, I am then more free to enjoy parts of life that I may have missed if I was too busy trying to put the final touches on that Christmas tree. Everything worth doing is not necessarily worth doing well.
